THE PRODUCTION NETWORK CREATES A ‘BEJEWELED’ EXPERIENCE FOR POPCAP GAMES’ FIRST LAUNCH PARTY
Seattle, WA – USA – On Monday, October 27th two leading Seattle companies — The Production Network (TPN), an experience marketing agency, and its client, PopCap Games — teamed up to create the first-ever gala product launch for the press in the casual games industry. The event, hosted at Seattle’s Frank Gehry-designed Experience Music Project museum, was the celebratory debut for Bejeweled Twist, the highly anticipated sequel to PopCap Games’ wildly successful “Bejeweled” franchise. With more than 25 million units sold, Bejeweled is the top seller in the burgeoning casual games market and helped establish the casual games industry centered in Seattle.
The unusual launch, dreamed up by TPN, featured PopCap’s CEO and young founders against a backdrop of a tongue-in-cheek stage show, complete with a heavily accented mad scientist character (Dr. Filberto Pignolia, “gyrational specialist”), a steam-punk “ROTATOR” stage prop, an enormous LED wall shimmering with PopCap and Bejeweled content, gem-toned décor and interactive gaming stations manned by PopCap employees in sparkling silver vests. As part of the launch crescendo, six aerialists in metallic “Jetsons”-style attire ascended to hoops to illustrate the twisting mechanism of the new game.
“PopCap challenged us to create an event that would be as fun as their games are to play,” said TPN Creative Director Martin Christoffel. “Working closely with PopCap, we designed an interactive experience full of hidden surprises, playful twists, and a multi-layered use of graphics, video, music and sound design. We used our on-stage talent not only to move the show along and build momentum, but to spotlight the new twisting mechanism that is so critical to Bejeweled Twist. Everything we developed was meant to exemplify PopCap’s fantastic and fun brand.”
When asked his reaction following the event, PopCap PR Director and project owner Garth Chouteau said: “In my wildest dreams, this is what I imagined – and the feedback from the attending press has been universally and equally enthusiastic.”
