2008 ended with some fun, small, one-off events for Xbox. They asked us to produce numerous consumer and press events showcasing games they wanted to promote for the holiday shopping season. Members of our team spent some days in San Francisco, LA, and NYC this Fall to show off these new games, culminating in a day long release party in the Virgin MegaStore in Times Square. Some celebrities showed up, some games were given away, and clients and venues alike were pleased, but most exciting was that game footage from the action was piped to one of the big screens in Times Square all day long.
These weren’t large events or difficult in their scope. But because they were so high profile, they were every bit as meticulous as a stage show. And given that they were in expensive cities we did not have the luxury to waste days while we were there. Load ins and load outs were early in the mornings and late into the nights, while the events were held during the day. As usual, not a lot of sleep, and no time to enjoy the city. But we’ve been used to this schedule, as it is similar to how we ran the Xbox/Gears of Wars II VIP Lounge on the Mayhem Tour this summer. In and out. Quick and pretty.
It’s different from the deliberate and scheduled chaos of corporate events we do. The fun is in not knowing the challenges until you get there.
Love the lighting! Looks totally Zen and buttoned up. I love it that you never see the chaos behind the scenes.
