Cooler than Kuler?

Somehow I missed out on the announcement that Adobe’s super-nifty Kuler application is now availabe on their AIR platform.

What’d he just say?

Kuler (kuler.adobe.com) is a great free tool that allows you to find complimentary colors after setting a base.  The site allows you to rotate through a color wheel and specify your starting point, and the system will suggest what the other colors should be based on a variety of algorithms that sort of guarantee they work well.  For me the site is a great tool and a fun playground.

On top of all this Adobe has now pushed this wonderful tool into it’s own stand-alone application that runs on their platform, Adobe Integrated Runtime or AIR.  Aside from being able to say that your product runs on “AIR”, the toolset allows lightweight applications to be downloaded and compiled or built on a Windows or Mac platform.  In English?  You can download one copy of an application and it will look and operate exactly the same on both platforms.  Nifty, eh?

I’ve been messing around with AIR for a few months here at TPN to see where we might best be able to utilize the technology in a project.  I’m not there yet and this technology is still in its infancy but its a very cool sign of things to come. :)
