growing good will

We’ve been growing our relationship with Solid Ground (www.solid-ground.org). Each month we will feature one of the programs the organization supports here on TPNblogs. This month we’re talking about Lettuce Link. Lettuce LinkMaybe it’s the winter blues that have people dreaming about working in their gardens, or maybe it’s the upcoming NW Flower & Garden Show? http://www.gardenshow.com/ Whatever it is – we are dying to get our hands dirty. I am dying to start my first real edible garden. This yearning got me thinking about Lettuce Link.

Lettuce Link is an innovative food and gardening program growing and giving since 1988. This Solid Ground program creates access to fresh, nutritious and organic produce, seeds, and gardening information for families with lower incomes in Seattle. So as you pass these rainy winter months by sketching out this summer’s garden – consider saving a section for Solid Ground.
Home gardeners with surplus produce can donate to local food banks and meals programs. Here’s a list of local food banks & meals programs http://www.solid-ground.org/Programs/Nutrition/Lettuce/Documents/WhereToDonate.pdf that will accept your veggies, including locations and hours. Plant, Grow, Clip & Give…it will feel so good!
Now…if only I could find a book or a class that is truly “Gardening 101”. Have you noticed these classes that claim to be 101 go right over your head? If you know of a good class or book, specifically for growing edible food in the NW, please blog back!
If you don’t have a green thumb or a garden or even the desire – you can still buy a Lettuce Link Tote Bag and support the cause. They are $20 each, sturdy, roomy and show you care. Email lettucelink {at} solid-ground(.)org to order.
