power to the people hang on…

Savvy marketers have been ready for the shift from consumerism to generosity for months – but I don’t think anyone could have predicted how aggressively these campaigns would be embraced. Starbucks is proving their genius once again with their own give vs. get campaign: http://adage.com/article?article_id=133988
Although, I love the idea of companies and individuals launching cause and making a real difference, I also fear for those non-profits with actual need. The “need scene” is about to get busy and cause marketing is the new sponsorship.  Remember the days when sponsoring an event was about banners and logos? Well now, the social network craze feeds individual sponsorship initiatives. As maddening as I think Facebook is (don’t get me started) one has to note the impression of empowerment…it’s like marches for lazy people. The wave of correction is coming to the social network, but not yet…not yet. There is still time to wave your flag from your desk chair, tweet your passion and purchase your flare. So- get giving people ‘cause you care.
Today’s march is for my friend Franklin…and possibly the coolest project ever (his words) http://www.iconsofoptimism.com/ Creator of Electricbaby http://www.electricbaby.com/…everything this guy touches turns to gold; and he is as genuine as they come. Backing Icons of Optimism demonstrates your passion for art, youth and community. How could Seattle not be on this list?
