The Challenge
CTA needed support in the design and build of four Keynote presentations and four fireside chats on a single stage and 250 sessions at three venues, all within a tight time frame.
As CTA was looking to host a post pandemic CES with growth in mind, they were faced with many challenges. The logistics of bringing over 130,000 people from around the world was difficult enough, but then they also had to manage dozens of high-scale brands, hundreds of presenters across multiple venues along the Las Vegas strip, and the demand of thousands of people around the world needing access to the content. Because each of the multiple international corporations presenting (LG, HD Hyundai, Walmart, Siemens and L’Oreal) had a different vision and need, TPN
custom-designed a first-class “base package” concept. This allowed each client a certain level of production, as well as custom augmentations to staging, scenic lighting and AV for which they independently incur the cost and responsibility. TPN also livestreamed to CES social media channels and www.cta.tech.
"THANK YOU SO MUCH for everything you did to support the show and digital production. We truly could not have done it without you and the rest of your team!” -CTA Digital Team
Why TPN was chosen to Solve the Challenge
For 27 years, TPN has been on-site at CES, a consistent, confident presence as the global event expanded and evolved over the years. And this year, that presence was bolstered by TPN’s merger last year with EVIA, another established production company with advanced digital content capabilities and CES experience. Together, they are a creative and strategic force, a world-class production agency able to provide a visually impactful experience for both in-room and remote viewing audiences.
"TPN seamlessly managed the MANY details of each presenter’s Keynotes by forming tight relationships with each client and producer separately and streamlining communication to them all as needed." -TPN Team
How TPN Responded
TPN pre-planned all aspects of the show and created a detailed production schedule, including off-site and in-room rehearsals.
(NOTE: Both the Siemens and Wal-Mart Keynotes were produced by other agencies -- Invision and LEO, respectively.) TPN then used its longtime, successful “repertory theater” strategy for the multiple-client Keynotes. The strategy consisted of three main tenets:
· Core resources such as staging, lighting, video, audio and labor, which are shared by all Keynotes.
· Fast, safe changeovers between sessions, prioritizing ample and dedicated technical and rehearsal time in the room.
· Client-centric additions, including a fully integrated redesign which took the needs and desires of all presenters into account. Proprietary concerns were also taken seriously.
We also dedicated a 10-person TPN project team -- plus additional independent contractors -- who hit the ground running. Within a week of kickoff, we had a ground plan that illustrated seating layouts and sight lines and met Fire Marshal public-safety guidelines for egress. We tapped into our vast network of AV/Scenic vendors to generate a preliminary budget. Once on-site, we were a well-oiled
machine, managing the lighting and rigging, main stage, backstage and LED walls and an ASL booth for the livestream. At the same time, building the infrastructure for streaming for remote audiences and closed-captioning for in-room accessibility.
"TPN assigned a producer for the CTA keynote, to work with CTA, and this producer also managed the handoffs (on stage and backstage show crew) between CTA and each presenter." -TPN Team
The Results
The TPN team oversaw the successful delivery and publication of over 291 sessions, seating 1,800 for the Keynote and filling every seat for all other keynotes – some with standing-room only. The fireside chats averaged 75% capacity.
The team seamlessly executed broadcast across four CES event channels for 146 streaming hours and heightened the attendee experience by managing in-room captioning in all 13 spaces across four venues along the Las Vegas Strip. We also launched a useful in-room presentation QR code for slide-deck acquisition and the successful consolidation of the TPN keynote into one shipment.
In addition to our work on the Keynote stage, the TPN team had effective communication and collaboration with the CTA and Mighty teams and instrumental support from the Hoyos Network.
The production team, working with our vendors and Keynote clients, created a redesigned base package with expanded LED and lighting.
Many groups were incredibly cooperative and almost all groups were open about additions and shared a lot of the costs. It led to a beautifully large screen that all groups utilized in their shows.
While “the dance gets complicated,” as one team member noted, everything went without a hitch. CES 2024 was an outstanding, cooperative collection of production and creative.
"The base package concept as a whole works well and helps us communicate what is and what isn’t included when needing to manage budgets and schedules for 4 clients plus our main client - CTA." -TPN Team
